We had our meet the parents session at Yishun Lake Garden last friday, 16 of March 2007.
It was a big group of us, 14 people comprise of both side parents and aunties.
Thanks to Thomas, our coordinator at YLG who arrange a private room for us. This is the 1st time both side relatives see each other. I could'nt feel any tense feeling as all of us are enjoying the food and giving comments on the food. The food was seved pretty fast and that helps to cover some quiet moments.
From dish 1 till dish 8, no one start the topic of the nite! We are suppose to talk abt the dowry and any procedures to follow for the wedding preparation and ceremony. Just as we are being served the 2nd last dish. He say "so how shall we do the ceremony?" Phew! Finally we get the relatives to start talking. Hahaha.....
Luckily we are living in the modern world, a lot of things can be represented by writting on the "ang bao"! Haha! There are still some traditional stuffs that we need to follow, like comb hair, "Guo da li", "an cheung" etc but overall its considered very minimum already. Hehe! I still could'nt remember wat we exactly have to do, we would have to get the aunties to help when date is nearer.
Din manage to take any photos cos dun want to disrupt the eating. We are quite satified with the food and presentation. The portions are really huge.

Hi puroland, will u be having dinner in the resturant or OCC ballroom?
Last Sat i attend 1 of my hubby's relative wedding dinner in OCC ballroom.
At the 1st wedding march, the music suddenly died off when the couple juz enter the ballroom... Seem like there is some kind of power failure somewhere! Imagine how shock we were... But lucky everyone was still clapping away as loudly as possible. The couple contiue to make their way to the stage without music...
Hubby comment lucky our wedding lunch didn't happen this kind of situation, else we wouldn't know how to handle...
But other than this "unexpected" situation, the rest are ok. Food serving good & very tasty. Waitress top up our drink very promptly.

Hi puroland, wow.... u so fast go for ur food tasting already??? Tt time our coordinator Ms Teng, she told us we can hv it during june or july. Will u b inviting ur muslim friends???? So hw? Hv u decide on which florists to use?
sounds scary lei the power trip. OCC normally wont have this kind of thing happen cos alot of the stats board n govt dinners are held there. Anyway, the couple is jus unlucky.

woh! sound goes dead! Somemore the OCC ballroom walk way so long woh!... I am not having the banquet in the ballroom. It was our inital choice to go OCC ballroom but we had some bad experience with OCC. So happen we saw the resturant and get to know that they are the same resturant that supply to OCC. The resturant is so much accomodating to our request.
I would say food wise, the taste is normal some dishes are average and some are above average, defintely not taste bad or not nice. And the portion is well know for HUGE!
We actually arrange the food tasting session a kinda meet the parents and relative session. Cos both side of the family have not seen each other b4. So got to do it earlier. Hahaha... if not my parents would be wondering how come the guy side like slack slack do nothing. Actually nothing much to be done, cos both of us have been acting like middle man to relate to both side. But i think they will feel more at ease after meeting each other ba. We also save money loh, dun need to spend money to gather them. Hahah...
We have yet to finalise the rest of the details with YLG cos it still pretty early. We will be going back in May, June to settle the invitation card and deco ba. I have yet to ask them about special arrangment like muslim food and stuff. We might not have muslim guest. As for deco, I am thinking of DIY, haven really go and conceptualise yet. Kexie, wat about u?
That food tasting nite we are more concern to make both side of the family feel at ease, till we din take photo of the dishes! hahaha...
rylryl, when is your AD? also at YLG or at OCC?
voon, i just saw the thread in SGbride about power trip in OCC. It was the ger's bro wedding and she is very unhapy and complained that the food were real bad.

I realise I chose red garoupa with superior soya sauce, initially chose herbal chicken but mum say take 8 treasure chicken cos some ppl scared of the herbal smell...hehe. Hws the cereal prawn? I tot i try the chicken floss chicken 1st, if nt nice change to cereal. I very blur hor. hee
I find the cereal prawn very nice lei...Fragrance and prawns are pretty decent size too. I have not tried the chicken floss prawn b4, but the name sound appealing...so far among all the prawn dishes i eat b4, i like the orange sauce prawn ball from Pioneer Spring in Mount Faber Safra best...unqiue taste and best is dun need to de-shell....hahahah...we did ask YLG if they have any prawn dishes that dun need to de-shell a not. He say it may not look presentable with prawn ball, usually ppl find that full shell prawn more presentable...Hmmm... i think we wont have time to eat during that nite also...
puroland: yah lo, tink ultimately is make ourselves happy during food tasting only ahhaha! We wont have anything to eat that nite...wat happen tat u gave OCC up ah? Actually, they are very rigid la I wld say, jus like our "Cheng Hu"! If they cant do it or cant give, they will just spell it outright lo. So we gotta take it or leave it.
I told my hb wat happened to the wedding last sat, he told me this....so if u walk on the road n got bird shit on u, will u blame urself sway or u blame LTA/AVA? I was like.....y men so bochap! He somemore say liddat even better right, then they gotta make sure this thing wont happen for other events and on our wedding night!
I wanted to do solemisation b4 the dinner, so i request from OCC to give me a separate area, they only can give me the function room next to the ballroom (without deco). I always wanted a outdoor solemisation, so I ask them if they could rent me the pool side for like 30 min and they refuse. They say if they rent to me then they have to lose 2 biz, afternoon and dinner slot. In the end they say why not take a open area (somewhere near the golf course) but no deco and no shelter.
After talking to them a few times, we get quite rejected cos this cannot that also cannot. Plus the ballroom is damm big, if we only have min 40 tables, it would still be very empty.
In the end, as we decided to change venue, we walk pass YLG and we saw their flyer so no harm seeing. After the discussion with YLG, they are quite accomodative. We settle for YLG.
I see, everything also need $.....I wanna get real cake, dunno they will charge us to distribute the cake or nt......See how, this $ that $
not sure of OCC lei. I also forget to ask YLG, I am intending to get a real one. A small one like 7kg ba, cos i dun think all will want to eat the cake.
Wah...u really fast hand fast leg..i am start thinking if i am too slow?
