Our GDL on 15 Sept 2007

The night before GDL, we went to buy oranges and Nick insist that we have to buy the biggest size oranges available. He even DIY to wrap the orange into a "mountain". I really have to say its nicely done! Hahaha....

The day started at about 10am. My 姑姑s, paternal grandfather and maternal grandmother arrived at my place. My 姑姑s and I were chatting away then we realised we did not prepare the "老公盘" for my paternal grandfather. We only had the "老妈糕" for my maternal grandmother. Hahaha... jia liat! I faster take a ang bao and write "公公盘" and inform Nick that later he has to present this is grandpa.

Nick and his 大姑 came to my house with the GDL items that we have prepared. The hype of the occasion is of course the presenting of Betrothal gifts 娉礼 ! Hahaha... Nick started by presenting the Bride’s price 娉金, then 公公红包 and 老妈糕.

Nick's 大姑 chatted with grandma (both are teochew, lots of common things to talk about) then 大姑 tell Nick to show grandma the 四点金. I also brought out the 金手镯 that grandma has bought for me to show 大姑. Hahaha... typical of showing gifts...***faint....as long as the elderly are happy.

My 大姑 helped my father with the Return gifts 回礼, by taking portions of the cookies and sweets that Nick has brought over. The next hype was the return of the Bride’s price 娉金, my father return the wrapped in red cloth de Bride’s price 娉金 and wish Nick "大富大贵", everyone laugh...hahahah...

Everyone help themselves to the beehoon that my father has fried. After seeing the bridal photos and some baby photos of mine. Nick and me send grandma and Nick's 大姑 back home. Followed by bringing some of the Betrothal gifts 娉礼, together with grandpa to his home to pray to ancestors.

After that we took the Return gifts 回礼 went to Sim drive, Nick's 伯伯 and 伯母 house to pray to Nick's ancestors. Finally back to Jurong home with portion of the Return gifts 回礼 to pray to 天公.

The day ended with some mixed feeling. Happy that its one more item done, at the same time feel that things are happening so fast that I cant really recall the flow! (Din managed to capture a lot of photo too...cos things are moving very fast!) Its like a mini rehersal for the big day next Sat! Hahaha.... We treat ourself to a meal at pizzahut for dinner and ended the nite with Ratatouille!!!
